The Parish Council and our earlier Youth Council jointly funded the installation of a basketball goal which was supplied by the Sports Lottery Fund. This is freely available for use and has proved very popular with young people.
A grant from Chelmsford Borough Council’s Jubilee Fund also helped us to provide a new kicking wall and basketball goal in 2003.
Hard and grass tennis courts are available for use by members of the public. The hard courts are free for use by members of the public, although if you want to guarantee a court being available at a specific time, you should ring and make a booking on 01245 473538.
In 2000, two grass courts were converted into All Weather Sports Pitches, to enable use for other sports as well as tennis.
The football pitches are in great demand and are used by a number of local adult and youth teams.
The all weather sports pitches provide excellent facilities for 5-a-side football and training sessions.
In April 2018 work was completed on creating a new 3G surface to transform one of our all-weather sports courts into a modern all-weather surface for football. This court is now available for hire - ring the Recreation Ground on 01245 473538 or email email@example.com for enquiries and bookings.
If you would like to have a kick about with a ball, the All Weather Sports Courts (hard surface) are free to use during the months of July and August. This is provided that a member of Great Baddow Parish Council staff is on duty and the courts have not been pre-booked.
To gain access, please speak to a member of staff.
Great Baddow Cricket Club lease the wicket from the Council. Arrangements can be made with the Cricket Club for young people to have coaching sessions at the practice nets.

PARISH PLAY IN THE PARK SCHEME
The regular Play in the Park sessions at the Recreation Ground organised by Chelmsford City Council and funded by the Parish Council will take place again in the summer holidays 2018. These cater for children aged between 3 and 11. Unfortunately we have not been able to secure any dates for the Easter holidays this year, but hope to be able to provide both Easter and summer sessions again next year.
Sessions are free to participants and will take place on the following dates:
Tuesday 7th August
Thursday 9th August
Tuesday 14th August
Wednesday 15th August
Thursday 16th August.
All sessions will run for 2 hours from 1.30 to 3.30pm and consist of sports, games and crafts.
Registration for these takes place on the day. Children under 6 must be accompanied by an adult and under 8s must be dropped off and picked up by an adult, using a password system. Children over 8 may come and go without an adult, but staff will need an emergency contact number and any relevant medical information.
Full details about Play in the Park can be found on Chelmsford City Council's website - click here for details.
